Graphic Designers do a variety of different things, they need to be well rounded for whatever the project they’re hired to do they can make happen. Graphic Design artists usually do more than just one type of art unless they become specialists in a certain category. In the field of Graphic Design there’s a whole bunch sub category’s connected to the field or kind of mixed in with it most of your media used today is related to Graphic Design is some way or the other.
Earnings can range from a variety of things or what you specialize in let’s say if you only specialize in 2d design you probably would make less than someone who does 3d graphics or cinematography . The average starting out salary of a regular graphic designer working in a studio is about $40,000 - $41,000 while the top level graphic designer can make about $70,000+ a year. Hourly wages range from starting out of $20 - $21 dollars and hour while top graphic artist would be making around $30 - $40 an hour.
A bachelor’s degree is required to be the most successful in the graphic design field. However an Associate degree’s can work too. Another option is to have a lot of work in your portfolio of what you’ve and preferably whatever that relates to the job you’re applying for. The major factor in getting a good job in this field is to be really good you’ll find a lot of tough competition out there I recommend starting off as a freelance graphic designer and fill up your portfolio.
In this field of work you can find it really stressful at times due to deadlines. Another pain is going to be your clients you’re going to have to be able to give them what they want and you’ll have to make a lot of revisions at the same time try to convince them of working with your ideas too. Even though the job has a few stresses it’s really laid back and in most studios are laid back to. Another good thing is that this job is usually really flexible in most cases.
The graphic design field is a very highly valued in the business world. They develop the commercials the Logo’s, Websites and anything commercial and media related. Graphic designers play a key role not just in business but in charities, social events and even the news. Without these people the world would be less colorful and less out there I would be dull gray and just 80’s and 90’s (don’t get me wrong the era was awesome just not as cool as what we have now =] ).
