Concept design is the art of drawing the idea or template for anything that might need it. It can show what a thing is for and does. The art piece can even show what the object can’t do. Concept designers are needed for almost every art field that requires drawing. Some great examples are videogame design and moviemaking. They come up with the initial ideas for everything (vehicles, weapons, games, movies, etc.).

Education-wise you mainly need art experience and a variety of drawing skills. You need a good sense of anatomy, design, color coordination, realism (if needed in a particular field of work), etc. Portfolios and a degree are very helpful when finding a job. Wages differ mainly on experience, around $45,000 anually as a entry level designer, but around $80,000 at a director’s job.

Day to day activities really differ from workplace to workplace. The artists have a main idea and are supposed to put them on paper as a basic idea. They concieve plans for the development artists to put on screen or into the game. The concept artists are one of the most important people in the art industry.

Concept artist do a lot of videogame and movie art and sometimes they even do the 3d portion of the art to help the main artists. Concept artists are mainly professional sketch artists in reality, in the way they put their ideas to paper in the form of art instead of writing them down. It can be done digitally, on paper with ink, or even paint.

Concept art is a very interesting career and is one of the most important jobs in most art industries. Concept artists will always be needed and the job will probably never go away. Concept artists are the ones who draw ideas for cars, which we will almost always have, draw website ideas, concieve advertising, develop movies, etc.
