Conceptual Designer


Becoming a conceptual designer require, many things, but most importantly are skills, talent and creativity. Here is a little brief on how to become a conceptual designer. Here I will explain the talents and skills you need, what resourcse are required and also what the job entails.

Being a conceptual designer requires you to have at least 2-3 years of conceptual design experience with a agency design department. The Department of Design provides the academic structure for the advancement of Graphic and all forms of Information Design instruction at CCSU. The Department of Design offers a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Graphic / Information Design and a Master of Arts Degree in Information Design. Also when you turn in your portfolio it must have chock-full of conceptual design that will knock the creative team off their chair. Having the knowledge of using Photoshop, Dreamweaver, In Design and Illustrator are also required to become a conceptual designer, since you’ll be doing lots and lots of art using those programs. Doing production is a really important thing to do as a conceptual designer, so learn how to work quickly and efficiently. And lastly, they also require you to have proof that you drew on the walls as a kid.

Salaries are given based on your experience, so the bigger your experience the more your salary is. This is a job that lets you color outside the line, think big, and make your mark on consumer and business brands. You will have the chance to work on branded collateral from direct mail, associate facing tools, marketing pieces and media material. You’ll also get the chance to make banner, or icon, for websites.

Being a conceptual designer is a really busy job. You may think that, since it’s just a graphic designer job, it may be really easy. Actually they require you to make art that contains lots of detail. So a day being a conceptual designer may actually be a long day. If I was a conceptual designer, I will probably be tired by the end of the day, since you have to illustrate your art, then code it up and repeat your process until you're done.

Overall conceptual designer is a fun job. Many artists choose this job over others. Why? Because it’s a job where you can draw outside the line and don’t have to worry about making a mistake, letting you relive your childhood moments.
