Technology is getting more and more advanced each day. It helps a lot that we have the ability to use these high tech machines, especially in the medical field. Medical imaging is the process in producing a visual representation of organs, bones, tissues, etc. Using x-rays, gamma rays, high-frequency sound waves, can produce images of the inner of our bodies without hacking into it. Radiologic technologists, ultrasound technicians, sonographers are part of this field.
The invention of these technologies has been really helpful. Using these, we are capable of capturing an image on the inside. A medical imaging specialist can use it to uncover tumors cells (cancer), deal with broken bones, etc. Doing so, we can keep an eye on things going on inside or fix things up before it’s too late.
Some of the required classes are biomedical equipment, specialized computer technology, anatomy, and physiology. The salary for entry-level is somewhere between $15 to $20 per hour which is around $36,000 a year. This is most likely your first year when you are trying out the different things in this field. Your salary widely depends on what you choose to work on. For example, a radiology technician makes around $16 to $19 an hour while MRI technician makes about $20 to $25 an hour (both entry-level). The salary range is about $50,000 to $75,000 once you have stable yourself in one place and have a lot of experiences.
Radiology technician uses electromagnetic radiation to diagnose and treat diseases. Radiologists mainly take x-rays photos. An x-ray is a very high-frequency of sound waves of 10 to 0.01 nanometers. The waves pass through the body and capture the image and allow the radiologist to see the problem and diagnose it. Sonograhpers uses ultrasonic imaging devises to scan and see things inside. This devise sends sound waves through the skin and when it reaches a specific tissues or organs, it produces an echo and is converted to an image that is displayed on a screen. They typically do ultrasounds.
Basically, medical imaging is not just one thing you specialize in, but many different ones. Either it’s working with pictures of organs, bones, brains, or cancer, it all falls under medical imaging; a very important job.
