Roads to Nowhere

The career that I picked to do research on is Photographer. I found information on the education needed. Also how much money you would make if you had this job, what the required skills are to be a photographer. I found out what will happen in the future of this industry, will it not be needed anymore or will there be a popular demand for photos? I researched what it would be like to have this job and what people do when they are working this job. The last thing that I found out was why is job is necessary to society.

The education that you need/is wanted to be a photographer is basically college. For some photography jobs you need a college degree specifically for that job that that you wish to do. Most qualified people have degrees in photography or in journalism. Most colleges and training institutions have photography programs that teach all creative and technical aspects of the art. If you are planning on having a future in photography you should gain as much experience as possible through camera clubs, summer employment in studios, and by subscribing to newsletters. Employers often look for experience and a portfolio if available. You must have some required skills to like having a good imagination, and be creative, as well as have a good technical understanding of photography. You need good eyesight, artistic ability, and good hand-eye coordination. You must be patient, accurate, and detail-oriented and work well with others. It’s good to know how to use computer software programs and applications that allow them to prepare and edit images.

You may be wondering what the income of this job is, well the average photographer salaries for job postings nationwide are 51% lower than average salaries for all job postings nationwide. The average freelance photographer salaries can vary greatly due to company, location, industry, experience and benefits. Most people only make $18,380 to $37,370 annually. The lowest 10% of people doing this job get less than $15,000 and the highest 10% get more than $54,180. Then what will happen to this industry in the future? It is expected to grow 12 % over the 2008-18 periods, about as fast as the average for all occupations. The demand for portrait photographers should increase as the population grows. Growth of Internet versions of magazines, journals, and newspapers will require increasing numbers of commercial photographers to provide digital images. But the need for still photography may go down because if everything is on the internet then things might turn more into videos.

If you were a photographer this is what you would have to deal with. You want your clients get a special feeling when they see the pictures, like happy, sad, or bring back memories. Some photographers work 40 hours a week. For example if you are news photographer you must be ready to work when you get a call from their offices. Those who travel far away sometimes have to stay for a long time. They might have to wait in all kinds of weather for an event to take place or have to stand or walk for a long time. They also have to carry heavy equipment around everywhere they go. They have to meet deadlines and please their clients. However, they may not always have a job to do; they must find people who want pictures. This can be stressful. On the other hand photographers who work for themselves have a lot of freedom, they can choose the type of pictures that they want to take and make their own schedules.

So in conclusion you need a lot of experience, for a little pay. You need to go to college. You need to do a lot of things with cameras, pictures, colors and spent a lot of time doing it. That’s if you want to be a photographer. You don’t get paid all that much so it would most likely have to be a part time job. The future does look good for this job though for the most part, so that’s good. While you are working you will probably have to be away from home a lot and follow people place.
