Second, video game design has a simple but limited skill set. Thirdly, you don’t need too much education as long as you know what you’re doing. And lastly, there are lots of places for a video game designer to go to.
The income for a video game designer depends on how many years of experience he or she has. For a programmer or engineer starting out in the business, they can expect to make an average of $55k-$60k a year. A lead programmer with at least 3 years of experience can expect an income of around $83k. Lastly, a video game technical director with over 67 years of experience can make around $110k a year which is one of the most highly paid jobs in the industry.
Education for this career depends on the individual. Most that apply for this career field are graduates, however, a higher degree is recommended. Usually, those with a higher level education can move up in the field and earn a higher income. Those who don’t have that much of an education tends to take longer in gaining the much need experience in the career field.
There are some important skills someone would probably need to know for this career. One is that they would need to know how to use the software that would enable them to create the game. Another is to know how they want to make their game. Make as in what are the rules? What are the settings for the game? What is the story and how does it develop? Who are the characters? Development studios are keen to employ games designers who understand markets and target audiences and have the imagination and creativity to excite existing players and reach new audiences.
